There are thousands of Filipino women who migrate to America every year and they got surprised about life in this country. So, is America still considered the land of opportunity? I am writing this article to explain whether or not the US is still the great country as its nickname had previously. If you are one of those Filipino-born ladies seeking men in the US or planning to migrate here, then you should read this article to understand about it.
Previously, the nickname “the land of opportunity” that Filipinas, Hispanic, European and African immigrants called the US is because it can provide many life options, including money earning, career choice, education, fresh air, clean food, and etc, that they didn’t have in their home nations. However, there are some barriers that these immigrants don’t know is the language which has become the main factor, making it hard to their success in the United States of America. Unless you speak and write English well, you will have problems to obtain your successful life in this country.
Most Filipino women don’t understand about life in the US look like. They might have heard many Filipino American men show off their rich materials when they come back to their home country in the Philippines. These guys worked very hard to earn money and save it, then go back to their home town, tell young ladies about fairy tails in their lifestyle in America, make these ladies misunderstood about the US. I’ve been living in America for 20 years so I know exactly how my parents worked hard to take care of me and my siblings. It is not easy, ladies, you have to work so hard to make a living in this country. I remember by the time I was still in the Philippines. My parents could ask a home builder to build a small house that suits our budget. In the US, we can’t just build a house like we did in the Philippines. Every house must meet the zoning and development standards.
Another thing is that most of your professional degrees you have in the Philippines are not accepted in America. You have to go back to school and get a Bachelor or Master degree in this country. I will conclude that America’s nickname “the land of opportunity” is still suitable because I don’t see if there is any other country that suits better for this nickname. However, back in the 1980s, 1990, 2000, most Filipino immigrants could make an easier living in America. Nowadays, most immigrants must work harder but earn less than what they had previously. I think because the numbers of immigrants come to the US are increasing in the last decade, most people have hard time to make a living here.
America is still considered the land of opportunity for many Filipino millionaires and billionaires who want to invest in real estate and other businesses like restaurants, supermarkets, gas station and so on. Most Filipino investors can start a new business in America easily and safety without going through the costly and lengthy process like they do in the Philippines. For instance, when you open a new company in Philippines, you have to give the “envelop of money” or special “gifts” to local officials to get the paperwork go through easily. When your company is running, you must continue giving the “envelop of money” to your local officials as well.
There are many Filipino ladies at our dating site have asked me about whether or not they should come to the US with their husbands they have met at this site. As mentioned above, I think America, in 2015, still considered its nickname as the land of opportunity, but most newcomers must work harder to be successful. Don’t believe all words about Filipino men in the US said, including Chinese American, Filipino American, Korean American, Vietnamese American, Thai American, Indian American, because what they said are the advantages they went through. There are some people who have had some barriers when making a living in the US.
English is the language you need to know. I think Filipino, Russian, and other Western immigrants have no problems with speaking English. Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai immigrants usually have problems with English. If you don’t know English well enough, then it is hard to find a job here, unless you work in restaurant or supermarket that you can speak your language.
It is hard to get a Bachelor degree in the US. As you know, you must know English to attend the community colleges. English is the most important factor to determine whether or not you are successful in this country. Money is not about the issue. You can apply for financial aid to pay for your college tuition.
I suggest you go to college and earn a degree to make good money. It is easy to find a professional job if you have a Bachelor (BS) degree. The salary for a professional with a BS degree is about $45,000 per year (new graduate) and may be $100,000 per year (with 10 years working experience). However, if you work in a supermarket or restaurant, then you may get about $15,000 per year for starting and $20,000 per year after 10 years. Do you see the difference?
